Winter sports in Québec
![]() Around 100 of us, of as many as 19 different nationalities, occupy a picturesque hotel in the heart of Québec. It is the height of winter. |
![]() The beautiful scenery around the frozen lake lends itself nicely to a bit of winter fun, such as a dog sleigh excursion... | |
![]() ... spending a half-day exploring the snowy landscape on a snowscooter... |
![]() ... there was also a lot of fun to be had in a "ballon-balai" match (a variant of ice hockey)... | |
![]() ... although it sometimes got even more playful, like here when we were walking on our great skis... |
![]() ... and the Olympic discipline "who can saw through a tree the fastest"... | |
![]() There were lots of trout to be caught during the ice-fishing... |
![]() ... but a warm alcoholic drink during a hike on snow-rackets was also very much appreciated. | |

![]() We drove in antique school buses to a "Sugar Shack" (log cabin where the famous maple syrup is prepared. |

![]() There we tried a typical Québec lunch, very nutritious and doused in beer - and enjoyed the merry music. |
![]() In the evenings we generally ate gastronomically, but one time the dinner was held in an Indian camp which had been specially prepared for the group. | |
![]() A real shaman ("medicine man") told us about his culture and sang songs by the campfire. Luckily everyone was wrapped up warm, as it was -25°. |
![]() The beautiful hotel, made entirely of wood, had a central bar. We had had an ice sculpture of the theme of the trip - Tintin's famous rocket - placed right in front of it. | |
